Talisay eyeing reclamation project

The possibility of land reclamation and other development projects in Talisay City, Negros Occidental, were explored recently by Talisay Mayor Neil Lizares III and Rep. Albee Benitez (Neg. Occ., 3rd District), with Alberto Agra, chairman of the Board of the Philippine Reclamation Authority, in Bacolod City.

Also at the meeting were Sammy Palanca, Jack Maalat, Rolando Corona of the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (BREDCO) and Ismael Penado, Talisay Assistant City Administrator, a press release from Talisay City said.

The PRA is a Government Owned and Controlled Corporation with a mandate that includes regulatory and proprietaryland reclamation; infrastructure development; and public estates development and management, the press release said.

In Negros, the PRA has a joint undertaking with BREDCO and the City of Bacolod. The project is a 108-hectare reclamation area located in Bacolod for commercial and industrial uses.

Recently, a bill providing for the construction of a 36 kilometers coastal road traversing Bacolod, Talisay, Silay and Victorias cities and E.B. Magalona was filed at the House of Representative byBenitez, it added.

The construction of the reclamation and coastal projects, when completed, will pave the way for new areas for development in Talisay and in the third district of the province, the press release also said.*
