City of Talisay Conducts Health, Nutrition Orientation to 342 barangay Health Workers

342 BARANGAY HEALTH WORKERS FROM THE DIFFERENT BARANGAYS IN THE CITY OF TALISAY UNDERGO THEIR FIRST ORIENTATION ON HEALTH AND NUTRITION.

In consonance with the celebration of Nutrition Month for this year, Talisay City Health Office headed by Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon, M.D conducted the very first Health and Nutrition Orientation to 342 barangay Health Workers from the 27 barangays in the City, today July 24,2017 at the Dela Rama Hall.

Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon, expressed her gratitude for the benevolence of Mayor Neil E. Lizares III for supporting and for providing the budget for the realization of the said activity.

Barangay Health Workers are considered to be the front liners in the promotion of health and nutrition. This activity aims to inculcate to all BHWs their important roles and responsibilities as health promoters in their respective barangays. The first 1000 days of Life was the core topic in the said orientation. Said topic is focused on the child's proper nutrition from conception to 2 years of his age. Malnourishment, underweight and stunted growth in children were also among the topics discussed. The trainees were also taught of the correct procedure in administering vitamin A and deworming to children.

BHWs from Katilingban, Cabatangan, Conception, San Fernando and Dos Hermanas composed the 1st group of trainees scheduled in the morning and the remaining barangays from Bubog, Efigenio Lizares and Zones 1, 2, 3, 4, 4-A, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 12-A, 14, 14-A, 14B, 15 and 16 in the afternoon.

City Nutrition Officer, Ms. Gemma Gonzaga talked on the different topics in behalf of Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon. Also present is Executive Assistant for Health, Mrs. Denia Hiballes who gave the opening remarks in behalf of SPM Randy Ereneta.
