Dengue Hotspot Red Alert: Hacienda Minuluan And Doña Eustaquia Elementary School, Barangay Matab-Ang Benefits From Mosquito Fogging

Communicable diseases go WILD during the rainy season which includes Water-Borne Diseases, Influenza, Leptospirosis and Dengue.

The Offices of City Mayor Neil Lizares III and the Talisay City Health (CHO) headed by City Health Officer Dr. Joy Gladys Guanzon, are campaigning for the practice of the Department of Health's (DOH) 4S to prevent dengue. Remember the 4S, which means:

  1. search and destroy mosquito breeding places
  2. use of self-protection measures
  3. seek early consultation for fevers lasting more than 2 days, and
  4. say yes to fogging when there is an impending outbreak

A dengue hotspot is defined as clustering of cases with increasing number in the past four week period while clustering of cases occur when there are three or more cases in a barangay in the past four period.

For the January to June 6, 2017 period, Talisay landed on the top 8 with 50 cases of dengue with report from Jerick Estrope, Nurse II and Dengue Coordinator of the CHO.

The CHO has declared hotspot status on Barangay Eustaquia, Minuluan, Barangay Matab-ang with 6 cases of dengue virus infection recorded during the CHO's surveillance and entomological sampling last July 13 and 14, 2017 resulting to a fogging operation conducted in July 17, 2017.

The CHO plans to conduct fogging operations in Barangay Concepcion by the end of August as a result of the rise in dengue incidence rate in this locale in the previous years.
